NHS or private
NHS orthodontic treatment may be available for young people whose teeth have a clear clinical need for correction. For adults, and for treatment that's mainly about appearance, orthodontics is private.
What we can offer
Depending on what's needed, treatment may be fixed braces, cosmetic alignment of the front teeth, or a referral to a specialist orthodontist for more complex cases. None of our dentists is on the GDC specialist list for orthodontics, and we'll always tell you if a specialist would be better for you.
NHS or private?
Orthodontics may be available on the NHS for young people who have a clear clinical need. Otherwise it's private. Your dentist will always explain the options and give you a written estimate before treatment starts. How NHS charges and private fees work.
To confirm: Is orthodontic treatment carried out at Boclair, at Bearsden, or by referral? We'll describe it accordingly.
Questions people ask
My child's teeth are crooked. What should I do?
Mention it at their next check-up. The dentist will look at how their teeth and jaws are developing and advise whether, and when, to assess them for braces.
Am I too old for braces?
There's no upper age limit, as long as your teeth and gums are healthy.
