Your appointment with Dee
Dee checks the health of your gums, cleans away plaque and tartar above and below the gum line, and polishes your teeth. Then she'll show you, using your own mouth, which brushes and between-teeth cleaners will make the biggest difference.
If your dentist diagnoses gum disease that needs treatment, hygiene care is available on the NHS. Private hygiene appointments are also available if you'd like to come more often or for stain removal.
NHS or private?
Hygiene treatment is available on the NHS when it's clinically needed, or privately. Your dentist will always explain the options and give you a written estimate before treatment starts. How NHS charges and private fees work.
To confirm: Can patients book hygienist-only appointments (direct access), or only after a dentist's check-up?
Questions people ask
Can I book the hygienist without seeing a dentist?
Please call us to check. Usually we'll want you to have had a recent check-up so the dentist and hygienist can plan your care together.
Will it be uncomfortable?
Most people are fine. If your gums are tender, Dee can use numbing gel or a local anaesthetic and work in shorter stages.
Does Dee work at both practices?
Yes. Dee sees patients at Boclair and at our sister practice, Bearsden Dental Care.
